One of the last people to be convicted under the British Witchcraft Act 1735 was Scottish woman Helen (Nellie) Duncan, in 1944. The mother of six was sentenced to 9 months in jail, but spent 6 months, until the end of WWII. Local legend was that she communicated with a sailor during a séance in Portsmouth in 1941 or had a premonition the HMS Barham went down after a U-Boat torpedo strike off the Egyptian coast on 25th November 1941. The sinking of the ship was a national secret at the time, presumably to preserve morale. She was accused of deception or fraud [sounds like a cover-up] but at the trial she was found guilty of Witchcraft and branded a traitor.

The Witchcraft Act of 1735 was repealed in 1951 but Helen Duncan was never pardoned. The Scottish Parliament rejected an appeal to posthumously repeal Helens conviction in 2001, 2008 and 2012. Helen Duncan’s supporters and descendants tried to have her conviction repealed in 2016 under “Turing’s Law”, but I assume they were unsuccessful because I cannot find anything to say she was pardoned.
Wikipedia haven’t been kind to Helen Duncan, calling her a fraud and even producing some bizarre photo’s of someone they say is her, with cheese-cloth as cytoplasm oozing from her nose. I assume she got this adversarial treatment by those who write Wikipedia, because she had abilities that are considered a potential threat to national security, so therefore are regarded as either ‘mad or bad’ in today’s society.

The authors also underscore that ice sheet / glacial calving is indicative of a healthy cycle of glacier advance and retreat, and is not necessarily proof that a glacier / ice sheet is unstable, stating,

What's more, from running their generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution model, they find that it is in fact statistically possible for there to be calving events several times larger than anything observed so far in the satellite dataset.
This is backed by paleoclimate data (e.g., Bentley et al., 2005) that suggests such events have happened already throughout the Holocene, which the authors make note of in the discussion.
